This is a beautiful vintage mechanical singing bird in gilt cage. It was made by Bontems of Paris France sometime prior to 1960. On the bottom it is marked "Made in France" with the serial number "6074811". The animated bird moves it head to the side while its beak opens and close an the tail flips up and down. It has a lever near the base to set it for intermittent play or continuous play. The mechanical movement has been fully serviced and the bellows have been rebuilt. It is in excellent working condition and the overall condition is fabulous. The metal body bird has some new tail feathers and there are signs of age ruffling to the rest of the feathers. There is a small spot were the gilt finish is worn on the side of the base (see photographs) and the top ring appears to be a replacement part. If your speakers are on you should be able to hear the bird sing as you watch the video of the animation. For the best sound results, listen to the recording on good quality desktop speakers. Laptop speakers do not capture the true sound of the mp3 file. Measurements in inches. Height = 10.75, Diameter (at base bottom) = 6.375. Dimensions given at maximum points. The item(s) approximate weight is 2 pounds 11 ounces.
